Hello...
Thank you for visiting Dandelion School of Herbs website and taking
interest in viewing. I'm Elizabeth Morgan, director and founder of the
school. My reason for opening a school was motivated by a personal
mission to study, learn, practice, share and teach the knowledge of
alternative care for inside and outside the body, family and home and to
share that knowledge with those whom are seeking the same.
Lots of people have asked me, "How did you get into doing this; being an
herbalist?" "Did your mom or grandmother do this kind of thing?" "How
did you learn about herbs and stuff?"
My response is lengthy, so many reasons, how's, whys; but really I've
been searching, learning and seeking pretty much all my life. Those in
the art of alternative care would recognize the phrase, "Keepers of the
Green" to describe most herbalist. My love for nature and God's bounty
have been a natural part of my life. I grew up on a farm, learned to
prepare and repair things with my hands, recognize things with my nose,
detect changes with my eyes and feel things with my senses.
As a proud to be Hillbilly, everyday use of remedies, concoctions and curious cures was something normal and thought nothing of to
use. But...as I grew older, I wanted to know why those curious ways worked! So, I took it a step further and research these
mysterious and powerful methods to find that many didn't know or doctors had made them fear to use.
The older I got the more resistance I found among people and the more determined I became to know more. I was taught, "If it's
not broke, don't fix it?"
Learning about herbs, their uses and other natural materials granted on Earth is hard to find in one place, there are no such schools
unless you go to Asheville, NC or a university. There are only 4 universities in the whole USA. It takes time and patients, but I
wanted to offer a foundation where a person could become comfortable in using alternatives methods, ask questions and learn
about a lot of different methods in one place since there is no such place, Viola', open a school. And so, I put into action starting a
school, a school that teaches a fundamental course and a lengthy course, that will offer a chance for anyone to learn and seek,
bring in instructors with the same mission in mind and be available year round. The school is located inside a small cottage where I
own and operate Dandelion Soap & Herb Shop. The shop operates 5 days a week, making on-site everything it carries inside,
treating individuals and retail customers. The courses are offered to everyone who desires to learn, weather as a serious student or
hobbyist in a comfortable environment. Most Mondays, the class meets at my home 5.5 miles from the shop to work with plants in
their natural habitat and the potting shed is more convenient to work at and learn.

The Schools first course was offered May 2009 with three students who graduated in September. Courses and workshops teach
planting, harvesting, storing and preparing herbs. Make herbal medicines, remedies, teas and even first aid. Learn to make your
own body care, home cleansers, soap, candles and much more. Learn care for your animals, aromatherapy and about safe use of
essential oils.

Are you seeking knowledge for growing plants/herbs or just using herbs? How about identifying eatable weeds and permaculture?
Do you worry about your health, growing older or a loved one who takes many medications? Do you have a "Keeper of the Green"
living within you or among you that seems to always be outside or chasing butterflies, climbing a tree or wondering around in the
yard, or perhaps their seeking information in their own little world of wonder? Maybe you seem to always notice the plants speaking
to you from a magazine or find yourself reading or listening to alternative care methods, even though the great outdoors isn't your
thing. Not all Herbalist are outdoorsy people, just as all doctors don't play golf. Everyone has something to offer the world and the
knowledge of alternative care. Some students aren't crazy about the planting part, but they love making concoctions and creams or
cooking. Some prefer learning how to replace synthetic cleansers and using nature for first aid or ridding a rash. Herbalist come in
all shapes and sizes and some just prefer to consider themselves a student of Earthly bounties. Seeking knowledge, just plain
curious or wanting to help a friend get back to a happy and productive life. I've meet many who just want to know.
